Who we are

Gdańsk Transport Company is a special purpose company set up in 1996 to pursue the Autostrada A1 project. The company holds the concession to design, build, operate, and finance a new segment of the motorway from Gdańsk to Toruń totalling approximately 152 km. The concession was granted in 1997. The term ‘concession’ stands for an administrative decision issued by the concession-giving body, in this case the then Ministry of Transport and Maritime Economy (now Ministry of Transport). The concession was issued for a specific term and will expire in 2039.

Mission


Gdańsk Transport Company defines its mission as an aspiration to become a leading provider of services related to the development of modern road infrastructure in Poland. This position is achievable, provided the company completes this road project of prime importance in a timely manner and provides the road users with enjoyable, safe and efficient journeys. Gdańsk Transport Company also aspires towards creating a professional working environment for its employees and managing its relations with all stakeholders in an exemplary way.

The prime purpose of the activities pursued by Gdańsk Transport Company is to improve the quality of services offered so as to ensure the availability of a modern road infrastructure. Responsive to the demands and needs of the stakeholders, the company undertakes continuous efforts to maintain the top standards in all its activities. This commitment is fundamental to the company’s long-term successes and the best way to attain its strategic goals, which are:

Business


The business activities of the Gdańsk Transport Company focus on execution and operation of one of the largest road infrastructure projects carried out in partnership between the public and private sectors in Poland. The company’s Partner in the PPP project is the Ministry of Transport represented by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

The Concessionaire’s role involves raising the finance to construct and operate the motorway, providing the design, preparing the technical documentation, obtaining the necessary permits, executing the construction to schedule as well as taking care of the motorway management and maintenance – all focused on delivering the services which will make the road infrastructure available to the users.

While carrying out its obligations, Gdańsk Transport Company has entered into agreements with a number of partners. Project is financed by international financial institutions – European Investment Bank and Nordic Investment Bank - which have committed themselves to provide the resources of financing the Phase 1 & 2 and Swedish Export Credit Corporation - Phase 2. The Concessionaire’s obligations with respect to the motorway design and construction are met through managing the construction subcontract with the general contractor. The management of further service contracts with the motorway equipment supplier and operator will ensure that the facilities are maintained and operated to the agreed standards over the concession term.
