Continuous inflow of aggregates

Since the onset of the project implementation over 1 250 000 tonnes of various types of aggregate have been delivered to the construction site.

The granite grit designated for concrete production, as well as preparation of the mixture to be laid as the subbase, is brought in to Gdańsk and Gdynia by sea from as far as Scotland.  As a minor detail of interest one can mention is that several thousand tonnes of grit designated for concrete were shipped in from Holland.  How come that the consignment was imported from the country devoid of aggregate?  The company supplying aggregate to the general contractor encountered a shortage in covering our demand.  To satisfy it, the company repurchased some of the consignment it had previously sold to the Dutch.  Most supplies, however, come from the quarries in Lower Silesia and the local pits excavating aggregates.

90% of the material arriving at the seaports or excavated at the quarries is transported by rail.  Truck transport plays a merely supporting role.  The trains carrying the aggregate are unloaded at the stations of: Warlubie, Grupa, Grudziądz Mniszek, Gorzuchowo Chełmińskie, Kornatowo, Turzno, Lubicz, Ostaszewo Toruńskie, and Wąbrzeźno, and from there the mineral is moved to the storage sites.  The general contractor runs 7 sites of the kind totalling over 13 ha in area.

The responsibility for securing the aggregate deliveries rests with a part of the Logistics and Supply Team.  This is the largest employee group on the Team, and yet most dispersed all over Poland.  One of the team members is delegated as far as to Legnica.
