A competition under the motto of the ‘School on the Amber Route’ was announced last year in September. The idea behind it was to popularise the knowledge of amber, its values, significance for the development of culture, art, science, and its inseparable bond with the history of Pomerania and the numerous towns laying on the ancient amber route in Poland. The same route is experiencing revival today as a tourist trail.
The recently closed competition was entered into by 30 schools from all over Poland. Allmost all of them sent in their reports. More than two thousand children and teenagers took part in the competition projects. The solemn award presentation ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Amber Museum on 27 October. The Gdańsk City Council will also hold a conference for the students and teachers presenting the winning entries and giving an overview of the first edition of the competition and its results.
To honour the winners, GTC has reserved copies of the book by Jacek Borkowicz: ‘A Drop of Amber; A Travel into the Past along the A1 Motorway’ which is a compilation of stories and legends associated with the Amber Route.
