Opening of the first two sections of the motorway is drawing near

Intense preparations for early opening of the first two sections of the A1 Motorway between Rusocin and Swarożyn are continuing at the construction site. The priority work at the current stage is laying the last meters of pavement as well as finishing works within the main route and on bridge structures.

The workers try their best to open the first 25 km long section of the A1 Motorway still in 2007. The success of this plan does not depend only on the progress of work on the construction site, but it depends equally on the weather conditions and timely settlements of the opening conditions with the Ministry of Transport.

The works on the two first sections of the A1 Motorway are drawing to a close. All main work elements are completed. The initial section of the A1, meaning two last slip roads of the Rusocin interchange and WD-1 structure together with inlets (i.e. so called third and last stage of the Rusocin interchange construction) are being prepared for technical handing over at the beginning of November. Other works such as humus exporting, trees and bushes planting, implementation of elements of traffic safety and pavement works, are about to be completed. Tolling equipment has been delivered and installed on the construction site, whereas the devices that measure traffic volume are to be installed soon. Construction of additional facilities that are necessary for proper operation of the motorway, i.e. PPO in Rusocin and OUA in Pelplin, is at the final stage of handing over. Recruitment of motorway service personnel has begun.

On the remaining sections of the motorway all types of works are being conducted, however, each of them at a different intensity. The construction proceeds in accordance with the schedule and the current work progress exceeded 68%. The earth works are still continuing at some places, whereas the last concrete and final works are implemented on bridge structures in the motorway corridor. Over the last couple of weeks the main emphasis was put on AFL and a crushed aggregate layer placement. The purpose of those works was to prepare appropriately long fragments with substructure readiness for placement of the highest possible amount of asphalt mass before the winter season commences. The pavement is being implemented on all sections of the 90 km long section of the A1. In addition to the works on the site the hand over procedures proceed on particular sections of the motorway. Until now a few of the structures have been handed over but several other bridges and over passes are being prepared for handing over.

The most essential issue for the nearest future is the decision regarding the construction of the Warlubie interchange. The question of how quickly will the works commence depends on the progress in negotiations with the Ministry of Transport.
