There is the likelihood that the first 27-kilometers long section of the motorway from Rusocin to Swarożyn will be delivered for operation even this year. Opening of the entire stretch of the A1 Motorway is planned at the end of 2008.

In May 2007 the work advancement on the A1 Motorway reached the midpoint. What does it mean? It means that 50% of the construction works on the project had been completed. The first “half” of the project implementation process comprises not only design works, obtaining construction permits, recruitment of people and equipment and preparation of procedures and technology of work realization but also basic road works carried out within the right of way – in particular drainage, earth, bridge and pavement works.

The execution of the A1 project proceeds according to the schedule. Up to this time 62% of all earthworks were carried out, wherein the majority of works involved the soil exchange and humus removal. Construction of all bridge structures is in progress. At the present day the progress of concrete works exceeded 65%. As far as the pavement works are concerned, the work advancement on the road foundation and bituminous works exceeded 24% and 8%, respectively.

We are very proud with the fact of reaching the midpoint of the investment – says Mr. Torbjörn Nohrstedt, the President of Gdańsk Transport Company – it is beyond doubt that the first phase of the A1 Motorway will be built. It is a great chance for the Pomerania and Poland. However, we have to remember that the A1 Motorway will only have its economical sense as a whole, i.e. by joining seaports of Tricity with the southern part of Poland and the rest of Europe.

Despite the initial delays, the works have accelerated and the Investor confirms that the A1 opening date, which is planned at the end of 2008 will be met. The sectional opening of the A1 Motorway, i.e. earlier deliverance of the first two sections of the road is being carefully considered by the Investor as well. The arrangement in that scope continues.
