A1 Motorway is finishing

The A1 Motorway Project is entering its final stage of implementation. The progress of the works on sections under construction - the 65 km stretch of the motorway from Swarożyn to Nowe Marzy - is over 85 %. The works continue to the schedule. What’s more, it is clear that the above section of the A1, too, will be handed over before the deadline.

Good weather has permitted considerable progress of the works at all sections of the site. Soil replacement has been completed and only the construction of embankments at transverse roads and along the motorway continues. At many road sections, the anti-freeze layer and crushed aggregate subbase have been completed. Owing to that, high efficiency of production and laying of bituminous pavement is maintained. At the same time bridge works continue. In addition to concrete pour to the last elements of the structures, mainly the joints between overpasses and the road fill are being constructed and finishing works performed. Motorway fencing, protection barriers and prefabricated items such as curbstones, drainage gutters and noise screens are being installed, slopes strengthened and grass sawn along the motorway corridor.

In the months to come, maintaining high efficiency of pavement spread, elimination of temporary passes across the motorway, the transfer of traffic from technical roads to the motorway itself as well as the installation of motorway equipment will be the priorities.

Under the programme of the works, only 24 weeks is left to the end of the project. If the works continue as planned, the motorway to Nowe Marzy will be opened as early as in October 2008, that is one month before the deadline.

The first section of the A1 Motorway from Rusocin to Swarożyn was handed over for traffic in December 2007. More than 2 million drivers have used the A1 till now. Ticket price reduction introduced on 1 May 2008 has caused car traffic intensity to increase by more than 50%.
