GTC will build the second stretch of the A1 Motorway

Yesterday, in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Gdańsk Transport Company and the Minister of Infrastructure initialled the agreement for the construction and exploitation of the A1 Motorway Nowe Marzy - Toruń. The parties thereby brought the long negotiations concerning realisation of the Phase 2 to an end.

According to the principles of this agreement, Gdańsk Transport Company will build the next 62 kilometres of the northern stretch of the A1 for the price of approx. Euro 11,7 millions per kilometre, as well as three bridges, including two over the Vistula River, for Euro 191 millions. The Concessionaire also undertook the challenge to complete the planned investment by the end of 2011. Preparatory works are to commence this summer.

The initialled agreement will finally be signed after the agreement’s approval by the Minister of Finance and the currently involved financial institutions. Financial close is planned to be reached in October 2008.

Gdańsk Transport Company is presently executing the Phase 1 of the investment, i.e.               the 90-kilometre stretch between Rusocin and Nowe Marzy. The construction is well advanced and this entire section of the A1 will be opened to traffic in October 2008.

The combined Phases 1 and 2 of the A1 Motorway scheme will make it one of the largest motorway infrastructure projects in Europe.
